Elton John Had Teary Eyes At The Royal Wedding

Music legend Elton John had teary eyes as he went through an emotional moment at the Royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The 64-year-old is one the most successful artists of all time and has received knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II for services to music and charitable services, reported Mailonline.

John who sang at Princess Diana`s funeral at Westminister Abbey had called it a ‘surreal’ experience and he hoped never to have to repeat was seen biting his lip and his eyes looked red-rimmed as he gazed at the proceedings.

Returning to Westminister Abbey for the wedding was understandably an emotional experience as John shared some memories with the place.

John was accompanied by his partner David Furnish to the wedding.

The Wedding Reception Was Held In The Buckingham Palace

After a fairy tale wedding, it was time to put on the dancing shoes and party hard! And that’s what the newly wed royal couple, William and Kate did. With nearly 300 close family members and friends with them to celebrate the joyous occasion, the party went on till the wee hours in the morning.

The wedding reception was held in the Buckingham Palace and it was a black tie do. The groom’s best man and younger brother, Prince Harry finally gave a speech congratulating the newly weds and wishing them the best in life. Kate and William are likely to move in with Harry after they are back from their honeymoon.

The Queen and Prince Philip handed over the palace for the celebration, which was hosted by William’s father Prince Charles. Prince Charles and William used parts of their speech to mock each other continuing the father-son speechmaking. While the father made potshots at William baldness, William in turn drew the attention of the guest to his father’s growing waistline.

Brother Harry also kept his speech light and laced it with several jokes directly indicated towards William. Earlier Harry had admitted that he would have to tone his speech down a bit, if his grandmother, the Queen decided to be present at the party. Fortunately for Harry, the Queen decided to give the party a miss.

The bride looked elegant in a white strapless satin outfit designed by Sarah Burton, who also designed her wedding gown. The groom looked dapper in a dinner jacket and bow tie.

Toasts were made to the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and guests danced the night away within the walls of the magnificent palace.

The party was hosted in the ballroom which measures just over 36 metres in length and 18 metres in width, is the largest of the 775 rooms in the palace.

The world`s most high-profile fashion designers have praised Prince Williams bride Kate Middleton for her "classic" and "beautiful" wedding dress.

The brunette beauty unveiled her highly-anticipated wedding gown to the world on her big day in London, putting an end to months of rumours over who had been given the task of designing the famous frock.

Middleton chose Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton to make her wedding gown.

"She is very elegant. The dress is classic and goes very well in the Westminster decor. I love the modest veil with the Queen Mother`s Thirties scroll tiara and balanced volume of the whole gown.

She`s radiant. She never was so beautiful,” the Daily Express quoted legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld as telling Women`s Wear Daily.

Donatella Versace said, "Kate`s dress was beautiful. She looked very regal," while Hubert de Givenchy added, "The dress is very simple and very nice. The veil is a little flat, but because she has such a lovely face, she can afford to wear it this way. She is very pretty."

Thor Movie Review Hollywood Film 2011

It will go down in history as the most elaborately planned movie franchisee, spanning years and different movies (including sequels) and multiple characters with individual films. And despite knowing that such an extravaganza can be possible only from the marriage of one between Marvel and Hollywood, you continue to marvel at it. The latest marvelous addition to this collection is "Thor".

Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the son of Odin (Anthony Hopkins) a god, grows up to be a warrior too arrogant of his strength to maintain a fragile peace in the kingdom. Seeing his arrogance Odin takes his power and casts him to earth so he can learn to be humble.

Devoid of his power and unable to even move his weapon, a hammer forged from a dying star, he, with the help of a kind scientist Jane (Natalie Portman) learns the value of life and a humility and in the end is ready to sacrifice himself to save his friends.

"Thor" was a dangerous gamble for Marvel. He is not one of the popular characters among the avengers. To dedicate and entire movie, some would have said, was foolhardy. But the film "Thor" amply illustrates that if the will is right, creativity can indeed be brought to be a good slave.

"Thor" is Hollywood extravaganza at its best. It is expected of a film of this magnitude to have good effects. However, the film understands that the effects have to serve the story and not mask a nonexistent one. To bring out human elements in a story about gods, takes skill.

Also the costumes, set design and magical elements are put up in such a way as to make the clan of gods look like and advanced alien race rather than a magical race of gods. That gives the story a science fiction angle, like the other films in the Avengers` series, "Iron Man" and "Hulk", and the upcoming "Captain America", instead of a mythical, magical dimension that would not have fit in with the others.

Chris Hemsworth has gained more than few pounds for his role as Thor. From his impish arrogance of "Star Trek" to the magnificent arrogance of a god, he has come a long way both as an actor and as a star.

The film would delight fans of Avengers and Marvel comics with its hidden references. So we see the agent Coulson from SHIELD we first encountered in "Iron Man"; Samuel L. Jackson makes a unaccredited appearance after the end credits; and there`s reference to Tony Stark, Jeremy Rainer in a small cameo is set up to be "Hawk Eye" in the "Avengers" and Loki is set up to the arch-enemy for the "Avengers".

The Marvel master, Stan Lee too makes an appearance in a funny cameo. Fans should sit through the last credits, for a minute extra that has become an USP of this series.

"Thor" makes a good metaphor against vanity. One should not be too proud to be strong and that wisdom is worth aspiring for. Hope Marvel would have the wisdom to continue with good cinema in the next "Captain America" and "Avengers" offerings.

Actor Daniel Craig To Replace Sir David Attenborough

Daniel Craig, better known by cinema-goers as James bond, is set to replace Sir David Attenborough, Britain`s greatest broadcasting naturalist, as the voice of BBC nature films.

Craig has been chosen to spearhead an attempt by the BBC to use natural history to generate millions of pounds from international film audiences and ease the acute funding problems at the corporation, reports the Independent.

In his first venture into film narration, he will feature in ‘One Life’, a film that uses footage from the acclaimed BBC series Life, which has been hosted by Sir David since it first appeared as Life On Earth in 1979.

Craig said he was "very proud" to be part of the project. "The BBC Natural History Unit have proven, year after year, that their documentary skills are second to none," he said.

"For the filmmakers who spend their entire lives recording beautiful images of dwindling wildlife, I have only a sense of awe and a deep rooted respect, he added.

Amanda Hill, managing director of the BBC Earth and Walking with Dinosaurs brands at BBC Worldwide, said the intention was to make films that were "as entertaining as they are informative".

Prince William And Catherine Celebrated Wedding With A Kiss

Britain’s newly-wed royal couple Prince William and his wife Catherine celebrated their wedding with a kiss at Queen’s residence Buckingham Palace Friday after exchanging vows in Westminster Abbey, which was followed by a Battle of Britain fly-past.

Kate Middleton and Prince William were pronounced man and wife after the two exchanged vows in a royal occasion of dazzling pomp and pageantry that has attracted a huge global audience.

After the couple said their vows, in which she did not promise to obey William, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Rowan Williams, declared: "I pronounce that they be man and wife together, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen."

Middleton, the first "commoner" to marry a prince in close proximity to the throne in over 350 years, is seen as the new, modern face of the British monarchy, which is enjoying a surge in popularity on the back of the big occasion.

After weeks of fevered speculation in the fashion press, details of her wedding dress were revealed as she stepped into a Rolls-Royce Phantom VI limousine for the abbey to marry and become Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cambridge.

Bells pealed loudly and trumpets blared as 1,900 guests poured into the historic abbey, coronation site for the monarchy since William the Conqueror was crowned in 1066.

The monarch Queen Elizabeth, David and Victoria Beckham, the footballer-pop star couple, singer Elton John and Prime Minister David Cameron were among the famous guests at the abbey.

They joined 50 heads of state as well as charity workers and war veterans who know the prince from his military training.

Thousands of people from around the world were outside the abbey, many of them camping overnight for the best view of the future king and queen and fuelling the feel-good factor that has briefly lifted Britain from its economic gloom.

"People watching this at home must think we’re completely mad, but there’s just no comparison," said 58-year-old Denise Mill from southern England. "I just had to be here."

Around her the crowd entered into the festive spirit on a chilly day by wearing national flags and even fake wedding dresses and tiaras. Hundreds of police officers, some armed, dotted the royal routes in a major security operation.

Tens of thousands more crammed the flag-lined streets of London to catch a glimpse of marching military bands in black bearskin hats, cavalrymen in shining breastplates and ornate carriages that will carry royal figures from the service.

Sealed with a kiss

A large gathering is expected outside the queen’s London residence, Buckingham Palace, to cheer on the married couple as they appear on the balcony for a much-anticipated public kiss.

For others, however, the biggest royal wedding since William’s mother Diana married Prince Charles in 1981 was an event to avoid, reflecting divided opinion about the monarchy.

"It’s just a wedding," said 25-year-old Ivan Smith. "Everyone is going mad about it. I couldn’t care less."

Palace officials have released virtually every detail of the service, including the music and flowers. But the big secret was the identity of the designer of Middleton’s dress.

A screen had been erected at the future queen’s hotel to protect her from prying eyes, a new reality the 29-year-old must learn to live with as she joins Britain’s monarchy.

Fierce appetite for images of the young bride have drawn uncomfortable parallels with William’s late mother Princess Diana, who became the world’s most photographed woman and died in a car crash after being pursued by paparazzi in Paris.

The royals’ cool reaction to Diana’s death contrasted with an outpouring of public grief and marked a low point for the monarchy. Some questioned whether the institution, a vestige of imperial glory, had outlived its unifying role in a modern state divided by partisan politics and regional separatism.

William, 28, has kept the memory of his mother alive -- he gave Middleton his mother’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring and Elton John famously sang "Candle in the Wind" at Diana’s funeral in the same abbey in 1997.

Prince-William-And-Kate-Middleton-Royal-Wedding-Pics (14)

Also in the abbey on Friday was Charles Spencer, Diana’s brother who delivered an outspoken attack on the royal family at the 1997 funeral.

During the wedding, to be streamed live on YouTube, Middleton will not promise to "obey" William as part of her wedding vows, and he will not wear a wedding ring.

The wedding ring is made out of Welsh gold reflecting the couple’s links with Wales where they live. Prince Charles is also the Prince of Wales.

After the marriage, the couple are expected to leave the abbey in the 1902 open-topped state landau carriage for Buckingham Palace, where there will be a reception followed by a smaller party for some 300 guests.

About 5,500 street parties will be held across Britain, in keeping with tradition, although they will be more common in the more affluent south of England than in the poorer north.

Revival in fortunes

The marriage between William, second in line to the throne, and Middleton, dubbed "Waity Katie" for their long courtship, has cemented a recovery in the monarchy’s popularity.

A series of scandals involving senior royals, Britain’s economic difficulties and Diana’s death after her divorce from Prince Charles led many to question the future of an institution rooted in the imperial past.

But William is seen as a less distant, more rounded figure than his father.

In a surprise walkabout on Thursday evening which was a break from tradition, the groom reached into the crowds waiting on the Mall, the avenue leading to Buckingham Palace, shaking hands and chatting happily with delighted members of the public.

Some 8,000 reporters and support staff have descended on the capital to capture the occasion in words and images, and, while some question a British government estimate of a global audience of two billion, hundreds of millions are certain to tune in.

A Daily Mail survey showed 51 percent of people believed the wedding would strengthen the monarchy in Britain, compared with 65 percent who said the marriage between Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005 would weaken it.

However, while the queen, 85, exercises limited power, and is largely a symbolic figurehead in Britain and its former colonies, critics question the privileges she and her family enjoy, particularly at a time when the economy is so weak.

The monarchy officially costs the British taxpayer around 40 million pounds ($67 million) a year, while anti-royalists put the figure at closer to 180 million pounds.

William faces a long wait for the throne, however -- his grandmother Queen Elizabeth shows little sign of slowing down at 85 and his father Charles is a fit and active 62-year-old.

Actress Lindsay Lohan Sentenced To 120 Days In Jail

Several bailiffs led Lindsay Lohan from a Los Angeles courtroom on Friday after a judge who heard evidence against the actress in a theft case sentenced her to 120 days in jail for a probation violation.

The actress, who often conferred with her attorney throughout a preliminary hearing, showed little reaction as Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner gave her ruling.

Lohan’s attorney, Shawn Holley, said she will appeal, allowing Lohan, 24, to post bail, which was set at USD 75,000.

The ’Mean Girls’ star also was ordered to serve more than 400 hours of community service, including 300 hours at a women’s center.

It will be Lohan’s fourth jail stint.

The ruling came after Sautner reduced Lohan’s grand theft case to a misdemeanor and after prosecutors gave their case against the actress.

Sautner ruled that prosecutors had shown that Lohan violated her probation on a 2007 drunken-driving case. The judge refused to dismiss the theft case against Lohan, who entered a not guilty plea Friday.

“I see the intent here,” Sautner said. “I see a level of brazenness with ‘Let me see what I can get away with here.”’

But Sautner also said she often sees more serious cases that get reduced to lesser charges and that she wanted to give the Lohan “an opportunity.”

Jennifer Egan's Novel Won The Pulitzer Prize For Fiction

Jennifer Egan’s inventive novel about the passage of time, "A Visit from the Goon Squad," won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction Monday, honored for its "big-hearted curiosity about cultural change at warp speed."

Egan, 48, has been highly praised for her searching and unconventional narratives about modern angst and identity. Her other novels include "The Invisible Circus," ’’Look at Me" and "The Keep."

Critics were especially taken with "A Visit From the Goon Squad," set in the digital upending of the music industry. Earlier this year, she won the National Book Critics Circle prize for the book, which experiments with format, notably a long section structured like a PowerPoint presentation.

"The book is so much about how change is unexpected and always kind of shocking," she said by phone. Egan said she was inspired by Marcel Proust’s sprawling novel "Remembrance of Things Past," which explored the passage of time.

"His book of time is all about how the work of time is unpredictable and in some sense unfathomable," she said. "So there’s no question that winning a prize like this feel unpredictable and unfathomable."

The play "Clybourne Park" by Bruce Norris, which examines race relations and the effects of modern gentrification, won the drama prize. The work imagines what might have happened to the family that moved out of the house in the fictitious Chicago neighborhood of Clybourne Park, which is where Lorraine Hansberry’s Younger clan is headed by the end of her 1959 play "A Raisin in the Sun."

"I’m deeply honored and totally flabbergasted to receive this recognition," said Norris, who was staying on an island off the coast of Maine when he learned of the win. He thanked the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago for 10 years of support.

The Pulitzer for history was awarded to "The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery" by Eric Foner, a Columbia University professor who has won multiple honors for a career focused on the Lincoln era and Reconstruction. Foner, 68, called the latest prize a capstone for his career.

"The Pulitzer has a kind of broader importance and stature suggesting that your book is appreciated by a wider audience, a non-scholarly audience," Foner said in a telephone interview from London, where he is teaching this semester.

He said it can be intimidating approaching a book on Lincoln, who has been written about so much before. But he said many Lincoln books either try to put the Civil War president on a pedestal or tear him down, and he was trying to get a balanced view on a specific topic seen through the lens of that period in history.

Ron Chernow, a New York-based historian who has written about Alexander Hamilton and John D. Rockefeller in the past, won the Pulitzer for biography for "Washington: A Life," about the nation’s first president. It’s his first Pulitzer Prize.

"I am really quite flabbergasted and quite thrilled," Chernow said. The historian worked for six years on the project, reading some 35,000 to 40,000 pages of material on Washington and 125 books about people and events from Washington’s time. Contest judges called it "a sweeping, authoritative portrait of an iconic leader."

Kay Ryan’s "The Best of It: New and Selected Poems" won the poetry prize, a book called by the Pulitzer board "a treasure trove of an iconoclastic and joyful mind." Ryan was U.S. Poet Laureate from 2008-2010.

"It comes with a really big car, doesn’t it? Don’t you get a Humvee? The poet’s car," she joked by phone while pacing in her kitchen in San Francisco. The book spans 45 years of her compressed, witty, often humorous poetry.

"Since my nature was not very compatible with the tastes of my time, I had to find ways to express what must be expressed in poetry, which is the activity of the mind and the heart," she said. "I suppose it sounds like a cliche, but poetry came and got me. I came to it very reluctantly, but it insisted."

The general nonfiction prize was given to "The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer" by Siddhartha Mukherjee, an oncologist and assistant professor of medicine at Columbia. It is his first book and he found out he’d won the Pulitzer while sitting alone in a bookstore in New York.

"It’s the most incredible experience of my lifetime," he said. "One of the reasons I wrote the book was to demystify cancer. One of the things that patients often feel is that the mystery itself becomes a kind of stigma. And I tried to get away from that without simplifying it."

The music prize went to Zhou Long for "Madame White Snake," which was hailed as "a deeply expressive opera that draws on a Chinese folk tale to blend the musical traditions of the East and the West." It made its debut in February 2010 in a performance by the Boston Opera. Zhou was chosen to write the music by Cerise Lim Jacobs, who wrote the opera’s libretto.

The Pulitzers in journalism, letters, drama and music are given out annually by Columbia University on the recommendation of a 19-person board and each award carries a $10,000 prize.

Finalists in the fiction category included The Privileges" by Jonathan Dee and "The Surrendered" by Chang-Rae Lee. Jonathan Franzen, whose novel "Freedom" was the most talked about literary novel of 2010, did not make the list.

Finalists for the drama prize included the Broadway-bound play "Detroit" by Lisa D’Amour and the sprawling "A Free Man of Color" by John Guare, which was produced at Lincoln Center.

Actress Kate Hudson Is Expecting A Baby Girl

Hollywood actress Kate Hudson, who is pregnant with her first child with rocker Matt Bellamy, thinks she is expecting a baby girl.

The `Bride Wars` star has done a "pendulum test" which indicates the sex of the unborn child, and the result has convinced her that she is having a girl, reported Contactmusic.

"So here`s the pendulum test. You take a piece of hair and you take a ring, and you string it through - this is very witchy of me! And then what you do is you hold it over your stomach. And then if it moves in a circle, it`s a girl and if it goes back and forth its a boy," said Hudson.

The 31-year-old beauty demonstrated the result on Entertainment Tonight, where the pendulum is seen swinging in a circle, and added she has had no dreams about the sex of the child, unlike with her seven-year-old son Ryder from ex-husband Chris Robinson.

However, Hudson claimed she will not be disappointed if the baby is a boy because Ryder would be excited to have a brother.

"If the baby comes out a boy - to see the look on Ryder`s face to have a brother? I mean, forget it!"

Robert Pattinson’s On-Screen Love A Big Thumbs Down

Reese Witherspoon might have given Robert Pattinson’s on-screen love a big thumbs down, but his girlfriend and Twilight leading lady Kristen Stewart certainly has no complaints.

Stewart, 21, was spotted kissing her Twilight co-star, 24, in the back seat of a car as they left an after party following the New York premiere of his new movie ‘Water For Elephants’, reports the Daily Mail.

The actress was carrying her high heels in her hands and looked giddy as she leaned in for the affectionate moment.

The brunette, who is always eager to keep her relationship out of the spotlight, had skipped the red carpet but turned out to support her boyfriend at the private bash.

Pattinson instead attended the screening with his co-star Witherspoon, who had just days earlier described the pair’s love scenes as ``unpleasant``.

Pattinson has been dating Stewart since 2009 and the pair has recently been filming ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’, both parts 1 and 2, which is expected to finish later this month.

Kate Hudson Spotted Sipping A Red Liquid From A Wine Glass

While most women quit drinking during pregnancy, Kate Hudson appears to be different.

The pregnant actress was recently spotted sipping a red liquid from a wine glass during a meal with boyfriend Matt Bellamy in Argentina, reports the New York Daily News.

The actress and Muse frontman are vacationing in the South American country with Hudson’s 7-year-old son, Ryder.

Hudson, 31, announced her pregnancy in January, when she was already about 14 weeks along. She began dating Bellamy, 32, last spring.

Women are often instructed to abstain from alcohol while expecting or risk fetal alcohol syndrome, but a study released last fall suggested that drinking "lightly" (one to two drinks per week) did not increase a child’s risk of behavioral or cognitive abnormalities.

Motherhood Has Proven A Tough Job For Jennifer Lopez

Motherhood has proven a tough job for Hollywood beauty Jennifer Lopez who says that her beauty regime suffered after the birth of her twins.

The 41-year-old singer-actress has taken to minimal beauty routines as her three-year-old twins Max and Emme don`t let her have a free minute, reported Hello magazine.

"It can be hard. Sometimes it`s like literally I`m taking a bath and Max is off with the clothes and in the tub with me or in the shower. You don`t have a minute by yourself. Go to the bathroom? Baby standing right there. I`m like `Go outside.` Emme`s like, `No way`. So yeah it`s tough," said Lopez.

The `American Idol` judge had earlier admitted to struggling with maintaining her famous toned figure post giving birth.

"I`ve always been athletic and really enjoyed that. And I`ve never been a big eater. But since I had the babies, it`s been harder. Your body does change. Not too drastically, but I definitely have to work harder and watch what I eat

"I`ve never had to work on my stomach before, it was like, concave, I was a lucky person, but since the babies, I do. I really have to work on it," added Lopez.

Kourtney Kardashian Rejecting Disick’s Marriage Proposal

Kourtney Kardashian turned down boyfriend Scott Disick’s marriage proposal in the final episode of the family’s reality show.

Rumours had been circulating all week that Disick, 27, was going to pop the question in the final episode of ‘Kourtney and Kim Take New York’.

However, viewers saw Kourtney rejecting his proposal over dinner on their four-and-a-half-year anniversary, saying she was not ready to marry him yet, reports a daily.

Earlier, bachelor boy, Disick, said it was high time he made a lifelong commitment to the mother of his son Mason.

Before the finale aired on US TV on Sunday night, Scott tweeted: “Big episode tonight ya twit bags so don``t forget to watch.”

Kourtney, 31, was blissfully unaware of his plans to get down on bended knee, but sister Kim was fully in the loop and made sure Disick made a wise choice when picking out the diamond ring.

The final moments of the episode were somewhat sad when Disick’s big plans to marry Kourtney were shot down over dinner.

Kourtney was still clearly at a low ebb when they arrived at the restaurant, and there was little poor Disick can do to raise her spirits, and that included proposing.

He tells her: ‘For me, a perfect relationship and a perfect life is having a family and being married.’

But Kourtney is quick to jump in and air her own views. She tells Scott: ‘Things are so good now, why would we want to change that?’

Scott is clearly devastated by his girlfriend’s response, but Kourtney sticks to her guns by adding:’ I’m happy with the way things are.’

They then toast their four years together, with Disick saying: “Here’s to four year of being in an relationship, the best one of my life.”
